Info Post
While her husband got a Nobels Peace Prize and millions home to the United States during his visit to Oslo 10th. and 11th. of January, Michelle Obama get four knitted cardigans from Oleana Design, which she picked out herself, back to the United States.
Organizers of the visit had brought examples of Norwegian design in the hotelroom to the President's wife, including a knitted jacket from Oleana. She fell for it, and asked to see more. Finally it ended with that she took four of them home to the White House.
All four jackets are designed by Solveig Hisdal, and had different patterns and colors. Two of them was in Michelle Obama's favorite colors. The picture above shows the one of the jackets as the president's wife picked out.
60 % of Oleana production is exported, including to many dealers in the United States. Any Obama effect may therefore be of great significance for the factory.
The jacket is 100 % Norwegian-produced and made with only natural fibers. It means that they are very climate friendly and they are also warm.
These two are my own cardigans from Oleana Design. I use them often, both in the winter time and in a cold summer evening
Oleana Design also produces blankets, this photo shows my own red blanket, that I got as a gift from my husband for my birthday.
When President Barack Obama visit Oslo, he got a wool blanket from Røros Tweed as a gift from Grand Hotel in Oslo, where the couple lived during their stay. The gift fell apparently in taste, for soon after got the handicraft shop "Heimen" in Oslo visits from Obama's entourage.
Obama received a blanket as a gift, but came back and wanted to buy three more. He bought blankets in two designs (one with a moose motif), both of which have won design awards. One has also been purchased for the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Michelle Obama has received much praise for how she has taken the first lady role. Recently, she was also named one of the world's 100 most beautiful women.
Many believe the recent first lady, is the style icon that the White House has been waiting for, ever since Jackie Kennedy walked out the door.
Michelle Obama has done much to promote young and lesser-known American designers, and she is constantly praised for their strong fashion flair and self-assured style, where she mixes both expensive and cheap clothes from known and unknown brands, with style.
She has really good taste, and appreciate the clothes of good quality. At the same time she not use a fortune on clothes. But she uses the money ... (Just have to mention that I have exactly the same suit that Michelle carries on this picture - it's a little fun ..)
Her biggest asset is that she does not try too hard, but dare to be herself, she is brave and independent in her clothing choices, and that's what makes her a cool first lady.
But the real style is not just about what you wear or how to behave. Michelle Obama's real warm smile, her speeches and her way of being, is a good example for her charity and generous nature.
The Americans have every reason to be proud of the presidential couple! They are beautiful, genuine, warm and caring people and it's easy to see that they love each other very much - it is wonderful to see a man who so openly admires his wife.

OLEANA THE NORWEGIAN STORY

Oleana was founded on the belief that women need less, but more beautiful clothes.
For their most recent collection, the Norwegian company Oleana looked to China for inspiration – an ancient culture with strong design and ornamentation traditions that has left its mark on the west from as long ago as the early Viking explorations.
Oleana Design gathers new inspiration along the silk route and then takes it back home to Norway where their production is made in a small factory close to Bergen, by a crew of 60 highly skilled and respected workers. Oleana sets an example for sustainable clothing production and ethical business practices.
OLEANA started as a company 17 years ago in defiance of growing outsourcing of what had been a rich Norwegian textile tradition. It is a company with a soul and an eye for beauty. They have built their company on the belief that women need less, but more beautiful clothes.
In September 2009 Oleana hold an exhibition at the Pendulum Gallery that will illustrate how pattern knows no borders. From Norway to China, designer Solveig Hisdal has followed the silk road finding inspiration in silk damasks, floral ceramics, and mosaics, for her richly patterned knitwear
The exhibition was conceived as a handshake from Norway with Vancouver on the occasion of the 2010 Olympics. The exhibition (co-sponsored by Innovation Norway) will open on September 10th hosted by Designer Solveig Hisdal, co-owners Signe Aarhus and Kolbjorn Valestrand, and with special guest, the Norwegian Ambassador in Canada.

Solveig Hisdal is a clothing designer and artist, and employed as a permanent designer of Oleana, which manufactures blankets and knitwear. She is a graduate of National College of Art and Design in Bergen and is purchased by the Norwegian Cultural Council, West Norway Art Museum and the Fund for the Norwegian Handicraft.
Solveig Hisdal working with clothes, in the range between the unique and mass production standardization. Her works are characterized by exquisite materials, colors and design sense. She mastered to give clothes character, while she meets the high standards of quality and user friendliness. Solveig's intention to unify heritage with the contemporary expression. The inspiration from visits to museums magazines, good style historical knowledge and sensation of the dreams and stories of ancient artifacts are carriers of, and this is clearly visible in her work.
